What if being heroic just means being honest and asking for help when the hard times hit?

Our culture has generally seen endless calmness, emotional control and self-assurance as the heroes of the day. Even with the growing focus on therapy and finding oneself, there is still stigma, fear and shame associated with being anything other than efficient, reliable and stoic. No matter what.
But what if being heroic means:
- Being willing to enter seasons of bewilderment and pain, so you can grow through disorienting and overwhelming experiences of emotional crisis?
- Journeying through a season of deep grief at the passing of a loved one or a beloved dream?
- Letting past trauma catch up with you so you can work it out rather than pass it on?
- Challenging old beliefs and fears when depression, stress or anxiety has walked you into a wall?
What if…. being heroic just means being honest and asking for help when the hard times hit?
I have been there, at a crossroad when a hard time hit, needing to choose whether I just carried on (year after year, losing hope and health) or gave myself permission to ask for help and then learn from my experiences and become a healthier, happier and wiser person. It took me a while, but eventually I chose the latter.
Without support, these seasons of change can be long and uncomfortable, with ‘uncomfortable’ being an understatement. But – with support – seasons of change can over time become seasons of discovery (not just pain), adventure (not just grief) and deep connection.
If you are in a season of change – or know such a season is imminent or overdue – I can provide understanding, support and a safe place to self-explore as you move through this season into a better place.
